How to Deal With Women’s Hair Loss   by Antigua Resler

It isn’t only men who deal with hair loss, as many women do also. There are even experts today who believe that women are afflicted with hair loss more than men. There are now more ways to treat women’s hair loss issues than men’s. Women who are losing their hair have several possible choices to help their situation. If you are facing hair loss, you’ll be glad to know about some of the following possible treatments.

Believe it or not, in some cases, birth control pills can be used to treat hair loss in women. They can be particularly helpful in tending to female pattern baldness. This comes as a result of the pills being able to ward off the production of ovarian androgens. These are enzymes that inform your hair follicles not to create hair. Nonetheless, it is essential that you use low androgen indexed contraceptive pills. If you end up with pills that are too potent you could destroy the rest of your health. Furthermore, it is imperative that you recognize you must abide to the same rules, whether you are using birth control to prevent pregnancy or hair loss. Quit smoking, especially if you are above 35 and be sure to exercise a healthy lifestyle.

You could always shave off all your hair, though this may take some people aback!

Men do this all the time when they realize that they are starting to get thin on top. There’s no reason why women can’t do this too. The fact is, it’s no longer the taboo it once was for women to shave their heads. You only have to avoid getting sunburn on your scalp and keep it warm enough in winter. The upside is that life becomes easier in some ways, as you can forget about brushing and shampooing your hair. You will no longer have to allocate a budget for items related to your hair. One thing you should be prepared for is having an itchy scalp as your hair grows back. Unless you want to deal with scabs on your scalp in addition to hair loss, avoid scratching!

The drug called Cimetidine, or Tagamet, is also being used to treat women’s hair loss. This is technically a drug that has been used to block ulcers and histamines within your body. It heals ulcers as soon as they start developing. Scientists also found, however, that it can stop androgen receptors from preventing hair growth in your body. Androgens in your body are responsible for stopping the growth of hair. When they are blocked, nothing in your body can keep your follicles from being productive. Yet, the FDA still hasn’t approved this drug for treating hair loss, so make sure you get a physician’s consent before taking it. There are many ways that women react to hair loss. Some prefer to just accept the fact that they are losing their hair and do what they can with what they have left. Meanwhile, others don’t want to lose a single strand. You will know which approach is right for you. It’s always a good idea, however, to ask your doctor before you start taking any kind of drug. He or she can work with you to figure out why you are losing your hair and what the best method for counteracting that cause should be.
